Urology
The Department of Urology, founded in the 1970s, is one of the most active departments, with more than 2,000 surgical procedures performed in 2019.
The department is composed of 10 urologists specializing in various subspecialties. They supervise medical students as well as future urologists in training at the Faculty of Medicine at Saint Joseph University.
The department offers several specialized services:
- Minimally invasive surgery: Performed with the latest tools to ensure the least invasiveness, prioritizing the patient's well-being.
- Laparoscopic surgery: Used for the treatment of urogenital pathologies, including renal, ureteral, prostatic, bladder, and adrenal conditions, as well as the treatment of urogenital prolapse in women.
- Incontinence surgery: Available for both sexes.
- Endoscopic and endourological surgery: Laser treatment for urinary stones and the use of new energy sources for the treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia.
- Prosthetic surgery: Includes procedures such as artificial sphincter placement, penile prosthesis implantation, testicular prosthesis, TVT (tension-free vaginal tape), and TVTO (transvaginal tape obturator).
- Urethral and penile surgery: Specialized treatments for various conditions.
- Adult and pediatric kidney transplants: The first department in Lebanon to perform these procedures, in collaboration with the Department of Nephrology.
The department also relies on a technical platform for urodynamic assessments.
