Hôtel-Dieu de France Commemorates the Sixth Anniversary of the Beirut Port Explosion

Six years after the Beirut Port explosion, Hôtel-Dieu de France held a moment of reflection and prayer on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, in front of its Emergency Department, continuing a tradition observed each year in remembrance of the tragedy.

Physicians, nurses, and staff members, dressed in white, took part in the annual gathering, which featured the Lebanese National Anthem, prayers and hymns, as well as a moment of silence in tribute to the victims and in solidarity with their families.

On this occasion, Mr. Nassib Nasr, Director General of the HDF–USJ Hospital Network, delivered an address emphasizing the importance of preserving the collective memory. He recalled that August 4 is not merely a date, but a profound wound etched into the memory of Beirut and of Lebanon. He also reflected on the role played by Hôtel-Dieu de France on that day, when, beyond serving as an emergency department, it became a beacon of hope by providing care to more than 800 injured individuals. He further reaffirmed that commemorating this day places upon everyone the responsibility to continue the unwavering pursuit of truth and justice, stressing that there can be no justice without truth, and no future for any society without justice. He underscored that Hôtel-Dieu de France will remain at the forefront of those advocating for justice, in tribute to the victims and out of unwavering commitment to Lebanon.

Furthermore, Hôtel-Dieu de France has illuminated its façade in red throughout these commemorative days as a symbolic expression of its humanitarian commitment and its solidarity with the families of the victims of the explosion.
